Medavakkam

Medavakkam

Medavakkam- a small area in chennai, currently a  fast developing zone, which got its fame after the commencement of the IT companies in Shollinganallur on the OMR rode. Medavakkam stands in the junction connecting the velacherry main road and the OMR with its medavakkam- shollinganallur road via Perumbakkam. This region looks like a triangle. This area has got its vast improvement following the IT employees buzzing in. This locality is the place for all kinds of people live- from laymen to IT Professionals. I also had the opportunity to stay here for a year and half. This place is entirely different from where I come from. This place is quite busy always with its always busy main road where the post lamb connecting 3 main roads and the crowdy bakeries and shops adjacent to the bus stop. We get everything A-Z in this region. In a year's time I have seen plenty of banks, ATMs, good hotels and high class cafe's, grocery shops like More launched. There is a famous church, temples(Sri srinivasa perumal) and few good schools  and colleges nearby. I can see a great improvement in real estate already.

One thing that always disturbs me is the dirty environment. We cant help the pollution as we have plenty of industries nearby and plenty of lorries carrying sand for construction of houses, water for the area, seweage cleaning tanks and many more. The bus stop at the velacherry main road and the turning to shollinganallur are very poor in cleanliness. I have seen plenty of cows standing and sitting on the roads.I think this area had been their previous home and we have taken it without theirpermission(Feel bad). I have also noticed many blind people come here. During the peak hours in the morning all the buses have passengers who literally swing in the doors. I have noticed the people clean their shops and collect the waste in front of the road.  But what about the road cleaning! I request all the concerned people to take care of this. This really needs a notice. People please note. We all know "cleanliness is next to godliness". I appreciate that we all keep our homes and shops clean.. Lets also take care of our roads. Its your customers and friends who fall in the muddy and dirty roads.people who can look at it, can manage, but please think about the blind people. During the rainy season, we have no place to walk amidst the 2 signals. Its really hard to walk if its full of dirt.I am sure in a year's time this region is going to look pretty good and remarkable.

No Expectations, No Disappointments

“No Expectations, No Disappointments”- are the words my mom repeats often whenever I say I expect things out of all the work I do. It is quite a hard task not to expect anything back. But I really wonder at the mind set of my mom that she takes things easily even if it is hardest for anyone to digest. I have seen people, who over the years, gaining more experiance be like that.. Though, it is difficult for me, I still try practicing it.

Lets not take this statement in a sense like,we work in office without expecting salary;). This statement will apply only for people who expect more and for any deed done whole heartedly, in a selfless manner. We help our neighbours during their difficulties. We cannot expect the same concern from them.

Hi Righy!!!!!!!

Read your article you seems about expecting something,

believe it or not this is my mantra that i have learned from my life

I know that it is very diffcult to accept this fact because one way or other

we expect something or the other from somebody.

One more thing is that in which I strongly believe is “Always Give your Best Shot However be prepared for the worst part also”.

You may feel that i have copied this from the movie “3 Idiots” but sorry

this is my experience till now.

True .. I have faced this things very much so now I am used to.

Help somebody in his/her need but very rare chances that we will also get the same from them ..

So better to help because it makes us feel happy but forget it which makes us feel happy in future ..

I am new in bangalore and I was also feeling some expectations when I joined here as I know 3-4 guys here .. but all are in vain .. the latest incident I faced….

flushing out this only made me happy ..

I do agree with you “No Expectations No Disappointments”

Wow nice thought…

“You have a right to perform your prescribed action, but you are not entitled to the fruits of your action. Never consider yourself the cause of the results your activities, and never be associated to not doing your duty.”

In short - “No Expectations No Disappointments”

Hi guys,

Nice to see your responses. This is a general experience many of us might have had in all our day to day endeavours. and to add to it, Only if we expect back, we get disappointed. So, lets stop expecting and keep doing what our heart says:). We will be happy that way. Shall keep practising the same.

This morning

Today,as usual, I woke up with lots of hope and my routine started. I had my tea, and took a fresh bath. My mom prepared my lunch. As I  had to spend 10 extra minutes in getting ready, I had no time for my breakfast. My mom immediately dropped the breakfast in the tiffin box and packed it too with the lunch. Who can replace a mom! Its always she, sweet and caring.

I walked hastly to catch my bus. The bus usually arrives by 8:14 am. Walking through the streets full of the smoke and dust from vehicles, I finally reached the bus stop. I was on time and the cab was delayed by 10 minutes due to the traffic. The road was untidy as ever. I was stunned to see a family dressed in rags liying on the pavement of the road. The parents were sleeping fully covered. The children, a boy 2-3 years old and his elder brother who were already awake, were seated on the steps leading to a departmental store. The elder wore rags and his hair was brown and most untidy. The pavement was covered with dirt the younger boy had no dress to wear. He was still playing merrily tieing himself with a blanket. We people talk about several silly things in our life.. I was so ashamed to see people who dont even have their basic needs of life.  All the professionals waiting for their cabs and buses walked across with no notice of them.Few of them even jumped over the pavement to catch the bus. I was astonished to see them sleep in the loud traffic sounds. I dont find sleep at times worrying about simple things.. These people, who dont even have a home, dress worry for nothing..The implied answer of their life was "Whatever happens, Life has to move on"..   Before I could even think any further, my bus arrived and the driver started to horn to wake me up from my thoughts. I boarded the bus with heart so heavy.............

The Lessons

The Lessons

Initially, our school teaches many lessons in various subjects during our childhood. We have thought that only the teacher teaches the lessons. We read them, memorise them and give our tests & move on to the next grade. Now I feel, that has been the pracitse given by our teachers to lead the Life. At many times, we blindly do what has been told to us. Don't we?Have we ever analysed why we do & what benefit we have out of it?? It really does take time. All we need to do is think & analyse things.

But the basic line drawn for all lessons is the same. "Learn, practise and clear the test." Simple na!!?? Just match it to our life. We learn a lot of things in our day to day life. Only few of us practise it.
Those who practise, clear the tests that come across the life and be happy.
Those who doesn practise or forget things fail and create their own sorrow.
The lessons learnt are renamed as " experience". Right!!

Do these experience bring out the right decesion?
It depends upon our attitude. Positive attitude gives best lessons.

So the point I make here is, Do we really learn things out of life??
DO we practise and clear our tests??

Lets share our experiences and lessons learnt;

Let me start with one valuable lesson I learnt from one of my friend yesterday.
"Life is a mirror- give & get happiness back"

She has been by classmate from kinder garden till by 10th grade.
People change. Agreed. We understood well each other only a month before.
Sometimes, we interpret the lessons badly in our life. I had not been so good in choice of friends. Also, I didn have the right attitude to take the risk of winning a good friend. So, it is the attitude problem.

My childhood environment was such that I couldn make good friends. It was a month back, we had an opportunity to speak out our thoughts. This gained a good understanding between us. I felt, I had been so reserved. So, the lesson I learnt is " what we see might seem as the right decesion, but It might not be at times" Choose a good friend who can see through for you and help you out. Life will turn out to be wonderful. Hope you got my lesson too.

Happy learning!

Organise your thoughts

Organise your thoughts

"Organise your thoughts"- This is the feedback I got from my Manager when I had a discussion with him. He quoted few occasions where I have made a mess while speaking  in public. Just talking whatever is the flow of thoughts in our mind, might sometimes, mislead people's perception about us. He always says, "People assume things from the way we speak". Ya. Its true. We create the first impression when we speak. What we speak & How we speak matters. It really does matter.

Write before you speak
I feel that writing our thoughts and organising it will help.
  • Writing our speech & reading it once & correcting it ourselves is the first thing one can do to improve.
  • Reading it in front of a mirror to know the looks will help us deliver the speech well.We are our first judge. We will know how it looks.
  • Second, you can speak to a friend for his comments. This will help how the person who hears it will think about our speech.
  • Practise makes a man perfect. So, need to practise a lot!

This is the area am currently working on & please feel free to give your valuable comments. This will really help me develop my skills:)

K J Yesudas Anna Katcheri

25/12/2009
It was the Music season popularly told as the december season or Marghazhi season. The music was the only thing in the air just as I breathe. The days looked beautiful and colorful. All the magazines, TV shows were all so colorful with traditional and classical looks. All the silk saries, colorful rangolies, Lamps, traditional food varieties. Smelt so sweet.

Every year I never Miss Yesudas anna katcheri. He has been myManaseega Mentor from Kinder garden. It was his Sarana tharangini that brought out the Music in me. It not only developed the Music, it taught me Tamil, It taught me Bhakthi and a sense of happiness which I cherished the most in my childhood.
I continuously heard 5 concerts in the year 2007 as I was in chennai for my Project. I couldn make it in 2008 as I was in training in Bangalore. This year, I made to 2 of his Katcheries- One at YGP auditorium and another at Vani Mahal. I listen to many people's singing. But personally I feel that only His Majestic voice probs through my heart. I am not a person with deep knowledge in the music. But I can always understand the emotions that each Raga bring forth and thereby find the raga.

I wait the whole concert to hear few songs out of his Voice to mention:
En naenjil palli kondavan
Enna varam
Kannanai kandayoo
Enna punniyam saeidhaeno
Uyyala Jampalalo
and in special Harivarasanam
Blessed are few who have such melodious voice. Thank you das anna. I am blessed to hear your voice. The medium to reach GOD is music and I feel myself in the right path hearing you sing.

Thank you so much.
Left the hall with his autograph like the prasadham and a heart so light:)

Happiness

"Happiness". This is the word that everyone wants at the end of everytask. This is the magic word. The basic expectation of all the living beings in this world is happiness:). Happiness spreads. A simple smile is the symbol of happiness. Dont you agree?? Give a smile to someone you never knew, you get it back and also gain a friendship with it. It costs nothing by smiling but it gives you the most expensive things in the world. Even the animals understand happiness. It is the emotion that all living beings feel and rejoice.

We people see and want happiness in different forms. I feel that it is the human mind set that needs to be tamed for a happy living. Few are happy if they had a puppy.
Is happiness outside us?? Is it present in the things we see, food we taste, music we hear??
Every human has likes and dislikes. Happiness can be defined in many forms
I have a set of questions:
Have you cooked happiness?? Are you a happiness cook??
Happiness can be created?? Do you believe in it??
Are you happy always??
Is happiness a mood to you??

The blog is incomplete without the answers for these questions!! Please comment down the answers and lets discuss on this..
Few tips I follow to make happiness a habit. Might help you as well
1. Make yourself busy that you dont have time to worry about anything
2. Do things of you are passionate.
3. Create happiness for others- You will in turn be happy
4. Smile- spread happiness

Kalahasthi

Kalahasthi Trip to KalahasthiKalahasthi is a temple town, a Raghu sthalam. I planned the trip to kalahasthi with my mom & grandmom. You can have details of the temple, its significance from the wikipedia site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Srikalahasti_Temple. I read through the wiki site before planning my journey.

We started post lunch from home and reached Coimbaedu by 11AM. We have buses to kalahasthi every hour.We boarded a bus to Kalahasthi and reached there by 4 PM. we rented the devasthanam room and relaxed ourselves and went for a window shopping that evening. Mom bought oil, flowers and necessary things for the pooja next day. We took a bath and went to temple. Had the darshan of the Lord Darbaranyeswarar, the lord in form of wind and Gnana Prasunambal. We had the arthajama seva with aarathi. We also had the darshan of the pathala vinayar. Enquired the counter for the raghu sthala for the pooja. They said it will be open the next day morning by 5 AM.

So, pre-planned, we were ready in the temple the next day by 5 Am and performed the first abhishekam and Aradhana and also did a second darshan of the Shiva and parvathi. We lighted lamps in front of pathala vinayagar temple. The entrance of the temple is too narrow that only people who are lean and young can have his darshan. My self and my mom successfully made it. But my grandmom, though interested couldn. Even many young people skipped his darshan with Fear with them. When HE is there with us, Why should we fear. There are lots of monkeys roaming all through the temple. The temple with many gopuras painted white looked beautiful. The streets from the gopuras are always seen crowded.

Had our breakfast in Saravana bhavan(decent south indian hotel) and started back home and reached home safe by 4 pm. Om nama shivaya!!

Kanchipuram

"Kanchi"
"Nagaraeshu Kanchi" is the line of Bhana bhatta, the famous poet of the past.
He says, among all the cities, the most beautiful is Kanchi. I have many reasons to love this city.
I am an ardent fan of Amarar Kalki. His novel "Sivagamiyin sabadam" describes the city as a heaven. kanchi was ruled by the great kings, my heros, Mahendra pallavan and Narasimma pallavan popularly known as " Maamallan".
It is the city where by heros of the novels lived. Either, it be true, or an imagination, I had a great passion to visit the city someday. Kanchi, also being a temple town, we planned for a trip on a weekend. My mom was excited for her the darshan of her mom "Kanchi Kamakshi".

We started early in the morning from home reached Tambaram. From there, we boarded a bus to Kanchipuram. We reached Kanchi by 8 AM. Had our breakfast and then started our trip to all the temples as there are many. We initally went to see Kamakshi and Ekambaranathar as that was our primary aim. The temple was beautiful and had a story of how Kamakshi did tapas and married the Lord Himself. There is still the tree(Mango tree) under which the Goddess did her tapas. People stated that the tree will give three kinds of fruits. Ekambaranathar sannadhi was a large rectangular one and the lord himself was like a Mud linga as the Lord here is the God of the Lands. (Prithvi sthalam). We also had the darshan of ambal- Kamakshi who was seated in a tapas posture with a sugarcane in her hand.
We also went to chinna kanchipuram, had the darshan of Varadharaja perumal and thayar. The pond before the temple has the lord in the form of wood and the lord is always in there and once in several years He will be taken out and pujas performed. We also worshipped the golden lizards there. Just walked through the agraharam for a while .

I enjoyed a short travel in the old style covered cart with horse from the temple till the Kanchi Kamakoti mutt.
Had the blessings of the Guru and we then went looking for the famous Kanchi silk sarees. Then, started home back earlier as there was a Political meeting organised the next day in Kanchipuram on the eve of Aringyar Anna's birthday. We missed many other temples like kailasanathar temple. Will plan someother day soon to visit all these temples. We got a local bus back to tambaram and was back home by 5 pm in the evening. That was a great day!!

Triplicane trip- May 9th

"Thiru- alli- kaeni" also called as tiruvallikaeni is a wonderful and renowned place in Chennai. It is well known for "Sri parthasarathy perumal"temple. It is also called "triplicane" by chennai people. I had been planning this trip long since i resided chennai. It all worked out on this fine Sunday. I started from home by 1:30 PM with my Mom and Grandma wishing them a Happy mother's day:). The trip had the extra credit to my grandma as it was "Ekadasi". she always fast on ekadasi and she was so happy once I said we shall go to triplicane to have the darshan of the Lord Parthasarathy Perumal.

Starting by 1:30 PM, we reached Velachery railway station by bus by 2 PM. I bought 3 tickets to triplicane(train fare so fair Rs.6/head:)), enjoyed the train travel peeping through the window naming places to my mom and grandma. The stations perungudi/taramani/ mylapore/mandaveli..passed on fast.. I had stories to tell my mom & grandma.. I had never travelled in that train before, the speciality of it "flying" through the city. It was good travelling looking at the slow/sleepy Sunday noon for the train was not much crowded.

We reached Triplicane by 2:30 sharp and took a walk to the temple. I had planned the trip surfing Internet that the temple will be open for darshan from 3PM.(
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triplicane and http://southindiatourism.info/Templesinchennai.asp) Walking through the street straight, we could see the pond and the temple tower. We bought flowers and holy tulsi for the Lord and entered temple. But to our disappointment there was a board displayed "12:30 to 4PM- No seva for devotees". So, we sat in the temple premises with other devotees who were awaiting the darshan. We could see that the chariot darshan had been over in the recent days. The chariot was colorful with beautiful decorations. Not to waste time, Me and mom started chanting bhagavan nama and soon few ladies joined us with smiles in their places. I chanted geetha (bhakthi yogam) in the gates of Parthasarathy. We could see prohithas enter and leave the gates (via the small door). Sharp by 4 PM, the doors of the temple were opened and we entered the temple. The temple was beautiful. Had the deepa darshan of the parthasarathy perumal and vedhavalli thayar.

The temple has the history of about 2000 years and has been preserved by 3 dynasties Pallava, vijayanagara and the other( whom I am not sure about. you can refer wikipedia for the same). The pillars behind the vedhavalli amman's sanctum have the dasavatharam depicted in each pillar. Its a wonderful sight and i especially loved the "aalilai Krishnar"- a rare image carved on the stone. Also, the Andal sannadhi was splendid with a huge mirror opposite to the sannadhi. In the left hand side were beautiful pictures depicting all the 30 thiruppavai composed by andal. There are 30 distinct pictures.A splendid work Following this is the historical significance of the temple and images of the perumal taking vishwa-rupam. The uthsava perumal has scars on his face (vadu). People say those were because the lord has taken the pain of the arrows piercing bhisma- who was laid on the arrow bed during the mahabaratha war. Here the lord stands with his family. He has the Sangu but No chakram. He shows the other hand to his feet. He stands as sarathy (the charioteer)of Partha(arjuna).

Could still see few "Ondikuduthanam" in the agraharam of the temple, many have been now built big. I heard 3 languages spoken - Kannadam, telugu and tamil. The temple also had telugu versions of poems in the walls. Behind the parthasaradhi sannadhi is the yoganarasimmar sannadhi. His sannadhi faces the Back gate(Western gate) of the temple. There are photographs of perumal in different alangarams during the utsava season. coming out of the temple, With the tulasi prasadam, I did not miss OUR RENGANATHAR lying beside parthasarathy perumal. He lies left of andal. WOW. My mom read my Mind, saying" Namma rengar mari varuma de".This is the feeling of the hometown or the lord of my land. All gods are same still the happiness that our hometown imparts is always special. Coming out, in the utsava perumal mandam,we were lucky to watch the thirumanjanam of perumal. I had no words when the pattar wiped perumal's wet body with a new towel. "May the lord of the universe bless us all" was the only thought.

Being uthsava season, I found the information on the board of katcheries being organised by the temple .

Time: 7 to 9 PM
from 8th to 14th may

Some of the people performing are:
T.M Krishna(may 8th)
Veenai Gayathri( may 9th)
Kadhri gopalnath accompanied by Kanyakumari madam on violin
mambalam sisters
T.N sehagopalan sir( may 14th)

Missing all these katcheries,,
We spent time in the beach besides the tsunami warning which was given to us by the women in the beach.( the funny part was that she was busy arranging the mango stall for the evening earning along the beach.I could understand the meaning of one of the woman's words. She had 3 little children assisting her in her work.) Crossing the road was a bit tedious job and with all happiness, we reached home after a good coffee at Krishna hotel adjacent to the temple.:)

Chidambaram Trip

"Chidambaram"
"Hara hara siva siva Ambalavana
Ambalavana Ponnambalavana
Aanandha thandava Nataraja
Nataraja nataraja
Nardhanasundhara nataraja
sivaraja sivaraja
Sivagamipriya sivaraja
Chidambaraesa Nataraja (Hara hara)
"
தென்னாடுடைய சிவனே போற்றி !
எந்நாட்டவர்க்கும் இறைவா போற்றி போற்றி !!

I remembered the above song which we usually sing in our school bhajans when I planned for a trip to chidambaram. With HIS blessings, I am lucky enough to have had the darshan the Lord in all 5 (Panch bootha sthalas).
Land- Kanchipuram- Ekambaranathar
Water- Thiruanaikoil- Jambukeshwarar
Fire- Thirunannamali- Annamalayar
Air- Kalahasthi- Kalahasthiswarar
Sky- Chidambaram- Natarajar

The trip:

May1(Saturday)
We (Myself and my mom) started from home by 11:30 AM post lunch. We reached thiruvanmiyur bus stand by 12:30. Had the darshan of Vanmiki munivar standing midst of the ECR road. Got the crowded bus to Pondicheery. we travelled for the first time in ECR road. The travel was enjoyable as the day was not so sunny. We had cloudy sky. Travelling through muttukadu, mamallappuram and reaching pondicherry we had to wait for half an hour to catch the bus to karaikal. We reached Karaikal by 8PM, and reached thirunallaru temple by 8:30. We stayed that night inside the temple. The next day morning, we had a bath in Nala theertham. We had wonderful darshan of Thrinallaru sivan and ambal and saturn lord and started off back to chidambaram, following a nice tea at sankar cafe.

Reached Chidambaram by 10 30 AM. I have no words to express the happiness that blossomed in my heart when I stepped the temple premisis of Chidambaram. Having the darshan of the huge Vinayaka, walked in the hot sun (it turned sunny the next day) and reached the "Ponnambalam". I was lucky enough to have the darshan of the Ponambalavanan during the abishekam. The Abishekam of the spatika lingam there is one of the thing that must never be missed in chidambaram. The milk, vibuthi and honey abishekam, followed by the Maha arathi was a boon to my eyes. The maha arathi was performed closing all the doors except one. The Image of Nataraga was seen huge as a shadow over the entire room. The dedication of the deekshitha's ( the people who perform all rituals in chidambaram- they are a set of people having their origin back during the kings, who have by heredity perform the kaingarya.) moved me. The Bhakthi was there fully in the air. Everybody singing together " Thennadudaya sivanae pootri Ennattavarkum Irayva potri potri". My heart started singing " என்னேரமும் உந்தன் சந்நிதியில் இருக்க வேண்டும் அய்யா" in the raga devaganthari and my mouth followed it. Wow. No words. There immediately were a crowd who joined me in chanting HIS nama. We must say we did a bhajan for Half an hour. I had no heart to leave the sanctum of lord. After the Abisheka, we had the Arathi and prasadha. Tears started rolling down my cheeks. I didn know why I cried, but I did.:) "திரு சிற்றம்பலம்".
Having the darshan of natarajar and sivagami ambal walked to the back yard of the temple and 10 minutes walk down the streets reached " Thillai Kali" temple. Ambal was full of Kumkum red and there has the significant event occured. Thirutthandavam. Ambal couldn sign a posture which the Lord Himself performed lifting his leg. My mom then said, usually people enquire a Family's status enquiring whether it is " Chidambaram/ Madurai?" which implies that Its husband's rule in the case of Chidambaram and Wife's rule in the Madurai ( Meenakshipuram):).
சரணம் தாயே.

After all the wonderful darshans and his blessings, getting all the prasadas walked out peacefully, never minding the hot sun. We got a bus back to chennai by 2 PM. Reached home by 6 PM. Despite the tiring journey, myself and my mom smiled at one another. The meaning understood;)......
